PS&C – How We Built A Better Breed of Power Protection

SECU Safe With PS&C

Not many companies can back their products for their entire lifetime. Especially when that product’s lifetime can be in excess of 25 years. The high record of reliability (demonstrated at 20 years’ worth of critical power sites) allows PS&C to offer a level of service unavailable anywhere else in the Power Conditioning business. PS&C offers its customers Full Service Maintenance contracts for as long as they own their PS&C system. A great example is State Employee’s Credit Union (SECU) in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Since their 500kVA Hybrid Rotary UPS systems were put on line July 23, 1981, they have been under a full service maintenance contract with PS&C’s Service Department. This includes all parts, labor, and expenses incurred by PS&C service personnel. This has allowed Mr. Jim Peterso (Vice President of Computer Operations) to know exactly what his power protection costs him every year. Mr. Peterson kindly states, “I sleep great at night knowing that my UPS is protected with its maintenance contract. I know that if anything were to happen…even if it were in the middle of the night…all I have to do is pick up the phone and someone is on the way.”

Staying Power Leads to Growing Business

Power Systems & Controls has come a long way since we first invented the Rotary UPS in the late 60’s; we still have the original patents to prove it. PS&C has taken great pride in our repeat customers especially those who have procured dozens of our systems over the years, such prestigious organizations as Motorola, IRS, CSX, and American Express – just to name a few. We feel this is tangible evidence that our UPS products, power quality services, and our commitment to fulfill our customers vital mission critical needs is beginning to take hold.

“While many of our competitors are going through traumatic change, PS&C is continuing our evolution as the premium supplier. The introduction of our Series XC UPS product line and the increased emphasis on customer satisfaction are just part of the process. We are also seeing healthy changes in our people due to the different programs we have implemented companywide to help support and focus on the customer. It’s really encouraging to have customers like Intel select PS&C as it reinforces our entire process and the company’s desire to excel. After all, our goal is to become recognized as the premier supplier of large scale UPS systems world-wide”. ~ Armistead Wellford, PS&C President

Defense General Supply Center

The Defense General Supply Center (DGSC) in Richmond, VA has the huge task of supplying the military with its necessities. Their inventory includes the basics such as clothing and medical supplies plus industrial, construction, and electronic equipment. DGSC manages this enormous responsibility with a sophisticated, computerized tracking system that is connected directly to their military customers. This revolutionary system provides real time data allowing the DGSC to analyze and respond quickly to their customer’s needs. This sophisticated operation cannot afford to have electrical power interrupted, which is why they originally purchased PS&C UPS systems to protect their operations in 1979.

When base supply telecommunications underwent electrical renovation, DGSC again partnered with Power Systems & Controls to supply their critical protection needs. Due to its experience with PS&C’s reliable power protection, DGSC felt PS&C was the perfect choice. Along with subcontractor, Lord Electric, PS&C engineers took on the task of designing a system that would not only protect DGSC’s critical load, but one that would work within their facility’s existing infrastructure, which meant all of this had to be done without interfering with DGSC’s daily operations

Teamwork was the key to getting this job done. From the design and manufacture of the Rotary UPS systems to the careful installation and start-up, protection of DGSC’s critical load was the #1 priority. With the successful cooperation of everyone involved, the job was completed under budget and ahead of schedule.

PS&C 25 Year Anniversary

This year, Power Systems & Controls Inc. celebrates our 25th anniversary! This accomplishment in an ever changing power industry is due to several consistent factors throughout our history. First, the focus of the company has always been the customer’s need for reliable electrical power. Second, our employees’ commitment to the company’s #1 goal of customer satisfaction. With an average length of service of over 10 years, our employees are certainly qualified to supply and support PS&C’s Products and Services. Last, but most importantly, our customers are the obvious reason for our success. One of the greatest benefits of longevity is the relationships developed with a customer over the years.

A prime example of this type of relationship is our ongoing affiliation with Motorola. Last summer, four PS&C’s employees planned a short trip to the Grand Canyon and several days of sight-seeing in the beautiful city of Phoenix. When Motorola’s Western Area Computer Center (WACC) in Scottsdale, Arizona learned of their plans, they invited them to come by and tour the WACC facility. All enjoyed their tour of WACC and found that facility truly beautiful. The highlight of the tour was getting to meet everyone we work with in person and realizing that longevity builds relationships.
