MEDTRONIC + PS&C IN PUERTO RICO

Medtronic is the world’s largest medical technology company, offering an unprecedented breadth and depth of innovative therapies to fulfill their goals of stopping pain, restoring health, and extending life. Last year, millions of people relied on Medtronic medical therapies, which treated cardiac and vascular diseases, diabetes, and neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. Medtronic has a global reach that extends to more than 100 countries with almost 50,000 employees.

Medtronic contacted PS&C because they had a need for the best and most dependable Uninterruptible Power Supply system available on the market to backup one of their advanced manufacturing facilities. This important plant was located in Puerto Rico, and they decided to go with PS&C Series MC UPS systems with battery backup to support their critical operations. However, Medtronic was so satisfied that they ordered additional units a few months later. This second round of UPS systems were Hybrid Rotary Uninterruptible Power Supply systems with Flywheel. This was one the first opportunities that PS&C has had manufacturing a Series MC with the flywheel technology as the backup power source. However, Engineering and Manufacturing were able to successfully collaborate to complete these two projects and earn another satisfied customer.

PS&C Synchronous Motor Generator

The Series SMG, Synchronous Motor Generator provides total electrical isolation from spikes, brownouts, voltage fluctuations, and electrical disturbances on the commercial utility network. This is accomplished via a coupling between the motor and generator. The Series SMG is the smaller brother of our Series IMG – Industrial Motor Generator. It also utilizes a synchronous motor where the Series IMG utilizes an induction motor.

Series SMG Benefits:

  • Single Feeder or Dual Feeder Applications
  • Little Disruption to Existing Service
  • Blocks All Line Disturbances
  • Motor Sized for Real Power
  • Low Installation Cost
  • Blocks Customer Electrical Problems from affecting utility
  • Isolated harmonics from supply side loads

Series RMC – Remote Monitor & Control

The Series RMC – Remote Monitor & Control – is designed to monitor and control diesel engines and automatic transfer switches (ATS) from a remote location, such as a PCC space. There is currently only one version of RMC available; however, we are already continuing development of the system to offer two new versions in the coming years.

The current version of the Series RMC is an analog version, which has analog voltage and analog current meters with selector switches, and two (2) keyed switches for the engine and transfer switch control. Illuminated lights with audible alarm are packaged in a NEMA 3R wall mount unit with a polished aluminum mimic panel. We feel this new system will have great success with our already established customers because of its simplistic yet effective design.
