CAT Selects PS&C

Caterpillar Inc. also known as CAT” is an American corporation which designs, manufactures, markets and sells machinery and engines to customers via a worldwide dealer network. Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives. With billions in assets, Caterpillar was ranked number one in its industry and Fortune 500. This year CAT procured over (3) dozen Series MC hybrid rotary UPS systems to help support their operations.

In 1965, Power Systems & Controls Inc. was actually established by CAT and Virginia Tractor in response to a need by Caterpillar to build a series of machines that would bridge the 8 second gap of time from Utility outage to the Diesel Generator being synchronized on-line. Based in Richmond, VA, PS&C has been working in the power quality field ever since. We at Power Systems & Controls are glad to have our roots from CAT, a great American company!

Power Systems & Controls has a state of the art production and test facility located in Richmond, VA allowing for easy access to Washington, DC and the east coast. PS&C has the unique ability to support both static (solid-state) and rotary (motor generator) UPS, frequency converter, and power conditioning requirements as we are one of the few companies in the world that manufactures both types of technology. Power Systems & Controls is an employee owned company and has a long history of successfully supporting mission critical applications across the world. PS&C – The Power Is On!

Battery Monitoring System Updated

Power Systems & Controls has made considerable changes to the design and function of our Series Sentry Battery Monitoring System, and therefore, we are happy to announce the new Sentry II Remote Battery Monitoring System. The Series Sentry II monitors your batteries to predict and prevent battery failure and support 24×7 operation of your critical equipment. The best way to ensure the integrity of your backup power system is battery maintenance, and a sound battery management program which identifies and predicts battery failure. The Series Sentry II Wireless Battery Monitoring System is the most advanced solution.

The Series Sentry II is designed to monitor all critical aspects of each sealed or wet cell battery in your string. In addition to monitoring and trending the individual cell measurements, the Sentry II will also track the overall string voltage and charging status, so you can monitor the internal resistance of each battery while under load. Battery manufacturers agree that internal resistance is the most effective factor for determining overall cell health and potential battery performance.

Each Sentry draws less than 10 milliamps of power. In addition to monitoring all critical battery status, PS&C has included a standard “Ground Fault Detection” and an optional “Hydrogen Detection”. The Series Sentry II central system software (loaded to any PC) can notify the user when corrective action is required. Power Systems & Controls is excited about this new leap in Remote Battery Management, and have orders already in place from pre-existing customers looking to upgrade!

First Power Line Filters Ship

We are proud to announce the first shipment of PS&C’s Series PLF Power Line Filters. The Series PLF was designed to deliver clean isolated power into shielded spaces or areas that are not capable of housing tempest rated Motor Generator Sets. These filters range from 5 amps to 1200 amps in 2 to 5 wire versions; however, the 4 wire model is the most common. The Series PLF are manufactured with inductive inputs and capacitive inputs depending upon the customers primary loads down-stream of the Power Line Filter.

The newest models are rated for 100dB from 14K to 10G with a maximum of 1% voltage drop at full load. The Power Line Filters are delivered with lifting eyes and legs for the larger units to ease installation. The case is made from 14 gauge cold rolled steel with an isolation bulkhead that has a separate compartment for ease of clean side connections. The Series PLF can be mounted in any geometry and we are excited to offer this new product line to our dedicated USG customers and clients.
