Introducing Power Systems & Controls, Inc.
HISTORY
Power Systems & Controls, Inc. (PS&C) was incorporated in June of 1965 to design, manufacture, and supply power conditioning systems for "mission critical" power users. PS&C developed expertise in the design and application of motor-generator (M-G) sets for complete isolation of critical loads from power line problems. PS&C then developed the first rotary Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and continues to hold the original patents.
The Series XC, (the current generation of large Rotary UPS machines) combines the ideal isolation of the motor-generator (M-G) set and the extended power protection of a UPS. During the late 1970's, PS&C developed skills in power semiconductor applications that improved the performance and reliability of the isolating motor-generator (M-G) set and rotary UPS. A simple, highly reliable solid-state front end has enhanced performance features of the Series XC without compromising the superior isolation characteristics of the rotary approach. Further development included the highly reliable solid-state front end for non-linear loads.
It wasn't until 1990 that PS&C really began to expand its product offering by adding the Series MC a small footprint, low power 3 phase Rotary UPS, which stands up to it's nickname "bulletproof". 1995 brought on a slew of innovative machines as PS&C added the Series SC synchronous condenser for power factor correction, the Series MG motor-generator for 100% isolation and harmonic control and the Series FC Frequency Conversion systems for 50hz, 60hz, and 400hz. In response to the Department of Defense, PS&C's 1999 was filled with creating the Series IMG and Series IMG-RT (Ride-Through) industrial motor-generator sets for enhanced power conditioning and the Series NB, No-Break battery-less UPS. In 2002 PS&C was asked to support of the Dept. of State and develop a DC source for UPS, thus arrives the Series EPM Extended Power Module (DC Flywheel).
In 2003, PS&C created the Series GSR Voltage Regulator and Series TVSS Transient Voltage Surge Suppression for the most remote locations in support of the US Government. In 2005, PS&C completed a 2 plus year R&D effort to offer the best IGBT/IGBT transformer-less Static UPS in the industry. A machine which has the capability to re-invent the way all UPS modules of the future will be constructed, thus the Series Continuum.
PERSONNEL
PS&C has always been, and continues to be, an engineering and service oriented company. More than 25% of all employees are degreed engineers. PS&C management is composed of professionals with long term PS&C experience plus others recruited from larger, high technology companies in related fields. This combination provides the blend of talent and experience necessary to serve our growing markets.
FACILITIES
In 1982, PS&C moved into its existing facility, a two-story building and adjoining manufacturing area with more than 40,000 square feet under roof. Power service consists of a 1662 kVA utility feed and a 750 kVA diesel generator. The utility service is coupled with necessary switchgear, load banks, and controls to fully test all PS&C products. Material handling facilities include overhead cranes plus two lift vehicles with a combined capacity of 30 tons.
CAPABILITIES
PS&C's technical capabilities include an engineering department staffed with engineers whose skills range from the application and programming of microprocessors to the design of controls for the largest M-G sets. Achievements such as the PS&C HybridTM UPS paralleling switchgear, the complex "Ring Bus" UPS configurations and the Battery alternative Flywheels are examples of the qualifications of the PS&C technical staff.
SERVICE & SUPPORT
PS&C maintains an emergency service hot line 24 hours a day, seven days a week to ensure the quickest response to any problem. Our team of field service engineers is among the best trained in the industry. They are responsible for quality control and final test of every PS&C product before it reaches the customer. This unique service structure results in faster production feedback and a more efficient start-up.
To ensure the reliability of PS&C equipment, we offer a variety of maintenance contracts, including preventive and full service. Many of our customers have received more than fifteen years of reliable protection from PS&C equipment by simply having routine scheduled maintenance performed. The high quality service offered by PS&C along with the long design life of all of its products helps ensure that our customers obtain the lowest total cost of ownership available in the industry.
