System Description

The Series NB combines proven power protection systems in one complete package. Standard systems are available from 30 to 2500 kVA, with voltages from 208 to 600 volts 50/60 Hz. Custom systems to 13,800 volts at 10,000 kW are available. The heart of the Series NB is the ride-thru motor-generator with enough rotational energy to protect the load while the Diesel comes on-line. The motor-generator, utilizing state-of-the-art controls with "brute force" mechanical energy storage will take raw electrical power from the local utility company and conditions it to computer grade electrical power. Should normal power fail, the Series NB will start-the back up engine generator and seamlessly provide continuous electrical power to the critical load.

Design Features

  • Diesel or natural gas back-up generator
  • Mechanical energy storage without batteries
  • Individual NEMA 3R outdoor enclosures (optional)
  • Electronic remote monitoring with SCADA capability
  • Versatile layout for ease of existing room layout
  • 0.5% voltage regulation, no load to full load during transition +8%, -10%
  • Motor starting capability
  • Ride-Thru times to 60 seconds when required to keep Diesel maintenance down

Theory Of Operation

The Series NB provides isolated clean, self regulated electrical power from a utility source that can fluctuate between 10% high and 20% low. At the same time the utility sees a balanced 3-phase high power factor load with low harmonic distortion.

The Series NB also corrects load power factors to almost 1.0 to insure the best use of electrical service thus protecting the company from power factor penalties or complaints of high current harmonic distortion. The Series NB helps in guaranteeing the lowest possible power bill and the highest electrical power quality.

The Series NB has been designed to protect demanding electrical systems like variable speed motor drives that other power conditioning technologies cannot handle.
