A major concern of UPS users is battery life. One of the strong points of the PS&C UPS is its ability to use the rotating mass of the motor-generator to ride-through minor power outages.

Battery manufacturers are now changing the way battery life is measured. It is not only the age of the battery, but also how much you have used it. To insure that the warranty costs are valid, many manufacturers are having monitors installed on each battery system. These monitors count the number of times the battery is cycled, how long they were discharged, and the total amount of battery power used. When the battery has met its design life, the warranty is up.

PS&C has always provided an utility fault counter on our UPS systems. We believe that the user should know how often the UPS has done its job. Now that the batteries have their own monitor, we have been able to document that the ride-through of the motor-generator can handle over half of the minor utility problems without dipping into the battery. Out customers can see this by comparing the reading from the battery monitor and the UPS fault counter.
