What is a Power Conditioner:

When the utility supplies poor or inconsistent power, A Power Conditioner corrects the issue.  This is due to the power that you are receiving from the power company.  Power conditioners improve power quality to the downstream electrical loads.  The type of power conditioner required depends on the intended use and electrical application.  Power conditioners recreate a smooth pure sine wave, maintain a constant voltage against spikes and sags, protect against harmonics, and provide electrical isolation when the application requires it.  The most important task for a conditioner is voltage regulation and isolation.  The conditioner must operate fast enough to catch the anomaly before it damages the equipment.

Types of Conditioner:

Power conditioners will vary in size, footprint, and application.  Some power conditioners only provide voltage regulation while others can protect against various power quality issues much like an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).  Static or rotary technologies resolve power anomalies.  Rotary technology is a mechanical solution, which utilizes a motor generator to recreate the power required. Static technology is a solid-state solution, which utilizes electronics to condition the power to the required levels.

A power conditioner is used for correcting electrical disturbances such as variations in voltage, power sags/dips, flicker, voltage spikes, under voltage, over voltage, variations in frequency, electrical isolation, harmonic correction, power factor correction, and other power anomalies.
